His paper, “The Rieske iron-sulfur protein is a primary target of molecular hydrogen,” has been published in the prestigious international journal Redox Biology (Volume 88, December 2025).

This publication represents a critical advancement in the understanding of molecular hydrogen's biological effects. The research provides an explanation for the various physiological effects observed in clinical studies related to exercise performance and recovery.

Mr. LeBaron’s journey into this work began during his graduate studies at Southern Utah University. He completed his Master’s degree in Exercise Science, during which his thesis focused on the application of molecular hydrogen and its possible benefits in an exercise context. That early research led to a successful publication detailing possible exercise benefits.

“I completed my master’s here at SUU, where faculty provided the support and guidance for me to carry out a pilot study on exercise and molecular hydrogen,” LeBaron said. “The expectations they set, along with the autonomy I had to pursue my own research questions, helped prepare me for my PhD and for continuing this work through collaborations with experts around the world. In many ways, this new article grows out of that early research I did here at SUU.”

Beyond his academic contributions, Mr. LeBaron is a successful entrepreneur who currently owns and operates several businesses. His continued role as an adjunct professor and his willingness to mentor current students further support the University’s mission to further education with real-world application. Mr. LeBaron will be returning to teach this spring, bringing this research experience directly into the classroom.
