DramaCon will take place January 22-24, 2026, bringing approximately 2,000 students and theatre educators from across Utah to Cedar City for the state’s premier secondary theatre conference.

As part of DramaCon, participants will engage in a wide range of workshops, showcases, and educational sessions, while also attending multiple theatrical productions presented during the conference weekend. These performances include SUU Theatre’s production of Pippin in the Randall L. Jones Theatre, Parowan High School’s production of Hadestown, and Cedar High School’s production of Into the Woods, offering attendees a diverse and inspiring sampling of theatre at both the university and secondary levels.

SUU’s Pippin, directed by Britannia Howe, will be performed January 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. and January 24 at 2:00 p.m. Written by Roger O. Hirson with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, Pippin is a celebrated Broadway musical that explores themes of self-discovery, ambition, and the search for purpose. Originally produced on Broadway by Stuart Ostrow and directed by Bob Fosse, the musical continues to resonate with audiences through its blend of spectacle, storytelling, and emotional honesty. This production includes mild suggestive humor and innuendo. While UTA participants will be attending, members of the campus and community are still invited to fill the theatre and enjoy the show.

“Hosting DramaCon alongside Pippin is a powerful opportunity,” said Brian Swanson, TDAA chair. “It allows students and educators from across the state to experience live theatre in a professional university setting while engaging in meaningful conversations about storytelling, artistry, and purpose.”

Tickets for Pippin are $16 for adults, $14 for alumni, and $8 for youth and non-SUU students. SUU students, faculty, and staff are admitted free to one performance with a valid ID. Tickets can be purchased online at www.bard.org/tdaa or at the Utah Shakespeare Festival ticket office up to 30 minutes prior to each performance.

The Utah Theatre Association’s decision to host DramaCon at SUU highlights the university’s longstanding commitment to arts education, community engagement, and supporting the next generation of theatre artists and educators.
