CEDAR CITY, Utah -- As part of its annual Founders Week celebration, Southern Utah University hosted the Distinguished Service Awards on March 27, honoring four individuals whose dedication has shaped both the campus and the surrounding region. While the week celebrates the University's historic roots, these awards specifically recognize the modern-day pioneers who continue to foster growth, mentorship, and community impact.

This year's honorees, Mark Yardley, Lynne and Harry Brown, and Joann Bowns, were celebrated for their diverse contributions ranging from entrepreneurial expansion and civic leadership to decades of academic excellence.

"Founders Week is a time to reflect on the industrious spirit that built this institution, and there is no better way to do that than by honoring those who carry that spirit forward today," said Ron Cardon, SUU Assistant VP of Alumni and Community Relations. "These recipients have dedicated their lives to the architecture of community, opening doors through bold business innovation, fostering growth through personal mentorship, and weaving the social fabric that connects us all."
