Deirdre Barton, Wade Whitman, and Gannon LovisaThe Larry H. and Gail Miller Center for Entrepreneurship at Southern Utah University hosted another successful Spring Art Competition, open to students of all majors and backgrounds. With more than 40 submissions from talented artists, the event highlighted a wide range of creative interpretations of this year's theme, "Together We Soar," creating an inspiring and engaging showcase for not just students but members of the community.

While this event is unique and stands out from other events hosted by the entrepreneurship center, that distinction is intentional.

"Behind every piece of art is not just talent, but an entrepreneur waiting to be discovered, said Kristina Maine, assistant director of the entrepreneurship center. "'Together We Soar' reflects the spirit of being a TBird, where every student's journey, perspective, and creativity adds to something greater. Through this competition, we honor those unique stories while helping artists transform their passion into possibility."

This particular competition offers a powerful opportunity for students who may not immediately recognize how their creative passions or hobbies connect to entrepreneurship, helping them see new potential in their ideas and talents.

That realization came to life for student entrepreneur, Wade Whitman, owner of Pilot Peak Drones.

"When I first heard about the art competition, I didn't immediately connect it to entrepreneurship," Whitman said."But as the deadline drew closer, I realized that art is actually very strategic; it is the foundation of my business. Drone videography and photography are forms of art that take a vision and bring it to life. While not every entrepreneur provides a traditional art form, starting and growing a business requires that same creative vision to put yourself out there. I'm grateful for the opportunity to share one of my favorite drone photos and to [be recognized] alongside such talented students here at SUU."

These students were recognized for their creativity, vision, and the effort behind each piece, then a panel of judges carefully evaluated the artwork based on originality, interpretation, adherence to the theme, and overall impact.

Awards were presented to students from each of the following categories:
