A Bachelor of General Studies is a high-quality flexible education that prepares you to advance your career or pursue graduate school. This online program provides a focused set of courses in a variety of subjects. These courses are intended to develop critical thinking, soft skills, communication abilities, and insight into many different fields.
The material covered in the online version of a course is the same as a traditional on-campus class. Although there may be different ways the material is studied or covered, you will learn the same core information and techniques. For a heavily discounted rate you will receive the same high standard of education as all other SUU students.
All of our programs offer quality education at affordable prices. However, this General Studies program offers shorter, more flexible classes at a heavily reduced tuition rate. If you want to discuss the different options in more detail then you can reach out to our friendly team of advisors at 435-865-8665 or email us at onlineadmissions@suu.edu.

Research shows that 72% of people are employed in a field that is different from their college major. Forward-thinking companies are looking for employees with the strong critical thinking and communication abilities that a college education provides. Through this program, we are committed to helping you develop qualities that modern-day workplaces are searching for.
There are articles such as Do Big Cities Help College Graduates Find Better Jobs that you may read to be prepared.
This program offers all the benefits of a regular online degree but at a reduced cost.
Online courses do not require you to be physically present at any point during the term. There is not a specified time the online class meets and course materials are accessible 24/7. Professors provide the online resources that students need to complete the assignments, projects, and tests by creating modules for each section, topic, or week of the semester. Since these courses are condensed into a seven-week format (half the time of a regular semester course), two classes of six credits total are considered full-time. Watch our introductory video to learn more.
You will have a team of academic advisors ready to help you register for classes and adapt to online learning. You will also have access to the SUU tutoring center which offers online services. You may also look at the full list of resources available.
This degree is eligible for loans, grants, and other funding sources through FAFSA and other financial institutions. Combined with the $75/credit tuition rate this program puts a college education within your reach. (PLA 3920 is an exception as it does not count towards financial aid eligibility).
In general, we accept credits from other regionally accredited institutions. According to University Policy: The University awards transfer credit according to guidelines in regional, state, and institutional policies. It reserves the right to accept or reject credits earned at other institutions of higher education. In general, it is University policy to accept credits earned at institutions fully accredited by their institutional accrediting association, provided that the granting institution is listed within the Database of Postsecondary Institutions and Programs and is in good standing with one of the accrediting agencies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. (University Policy 6.47)
If you have further questions about transfer credits please contact our admissions advisors at 435-865-8665 or email us at onlineadmissions@suu.edu.
Due to the nature of the degree, there are a variety of jobs that you can pursue. It opens up the door to jobs that require a Bachelor's degree in a variety of fields.
All of SUU’s online classes are asynchronous. This means that you can work on your coursework anytime of day, allowing you to work towards your degree while working your 9 to 5. Online courses do not require you to be physically present at any point during the term. There is not a specified time the online class meets and course materials are accessible 24/7. Professors provide the online resources for students through online modules in the Canvas learning platform. Students need to complete the assignments, projects, and tests within the modules for each section, topic, or week of the semester.
No. All testing can be done remotely, although the tests and proctoring methods may vary from professor to professor and between different classes.
At the end of this program you will earn a Bachelor’s degree in General Studies. You will have a foundation in a variety of subjects and you will have sharpened your critical thinking and communication skills in addition to gaining a wide variety of knowledge about many different fields.
Many Master’s programs don’t specify the need for a particular bachelor’s degree. Because of this, you will find lots of opportunities for earning graduate-level degrees after going through this program. Check out some of Southern Utah University Graduate degrees offered.
