Reflection

On January 27, Bob Kittell spoke at SUU’s APEX event.

In Lynn Vartan’s introduction, she enlightened the audience and said that the lecture will “make your life better.” Kittell is an international motivational speaker who has spoken in front of thousands of people.

Kittell kicked off the lecture with some inspiration for the audience and declared, “if you want to do something, go do it for free until you are good enough that people will pay you for it.”

There are three kinds of people in this world, Kittell expressed. There are “those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who are still wondering ‘what the heck happened.’”

Kittell stated that “when you take action, you have the power to change other people's lives. You can’t give kindness away, it’s always returned. If you are ever feeling down, or depressed, or lonely, go do something for someone.”

Many people suffer from depression and anxiety which can lead to going into dark spirals of your life. However, Kittell said, “when you’re in a hard place, you might be in the middle of your next inspirational story.”

Kittell said that when you worry about the future, “you're playing a movie in your head that’s not real. Your emotions come from thoughts and your thoughts aren’t real. Wake up from the nightmare. Be right here, right now.”

A key to living a better life is being grateful. Kittell expressed, “I learned gratitude. No matter what’s going on, my life rocks because it could be worse. You can rewire your brain.”

Kittell’s book, En-lighten Up: Enhance Your Mind. Enhance Your Human Connections. Enhance Your Life is about connections and how people can live a better life. Kittell declared that “connection to others helps to quiet the mind. The most important person on the planet is the one in front of you.”

With some final advice for all in the audience, Kittell said, “if you don’t know the answer, be the student, find your teacher, go make it happen. Go find the answer.”
