Welcome to the Department of Biology

Southern Utah University’s biology major educates students in a variety of areas, including: pre-med and pre-health, botany, forensic science, microbiology, biology education, and zoology. Because classes are purposely kept small, students have opportunities to work closely with their biology instructors on research projects, assignments, and field trips to the major ecoregions located within driving distance of SUU. For pre-med students a more in-depth study of human anatomy is offered in our cadaver lab. We also have 2 faculty, Professors Paul Pillitteri and Mary Jo Tufte, who are officially registered AMCAS and AACOMAS advisors, the two admissions/governing organizations for MD and DO schools. This combination of relevant coursework, experiential learning, and amazing, available faculty prepares students for a successful post-baccalaureate experience.
