Meet Our Professors: Paul Pillitteri, Biology

As an associate professor of biology at Southern Utah University, Dr. Paul Pillitteri is able to teach something that is directly applicable to every student — the human body. Pillitteri cares about his students and finds success when he sees their hard work and dedication pay off.
Pillitteri loved learning and studying about the human body as an undergrad, and knew he could pursue his passion in the academic setting. He received his bachelor’s degree in biology at Westminster University, his master’s degree in biomedical science, and his doctorate degree in exercise physiology at Ohio University. Before coming to SUU, Pillitteri taught at Heidelberg College in Ohio.
“The most interesting thing about my field is that we keep learning new things about human physiology and medicine. I love my field because it is directly applicable to everyone, whether in terms of medicine and disease or just overall health,” said Pillitteri. “My favorite thing to teach is exercise physiology, which explains how different the body can function during exercise, and how much it can impact the body’s systems.”

- BIO 3255 Histology Lab
- BIO 4840 Cooperative Education
- BIO 4850 Undergrad Research
- BIO 4890 Internship
“Whatever your goal is, the path to that starts here. Don’t look at college as a stepping stone or hurdle to get past,” says Pillitteri to his students. “Focus on succeeding here first. The earlier you start working hard, the easier it will be to reach your goal.”
Pillitteri proudest moment working at SUU is when students tell him that they have been accepted into their desired programs of study. Pillitteri loves SUU because the focus is on the students, so faculty are able to work closely with them over their four years at SUU.
