Students in a computer labIn the past, a university student spent hours in the library looking through hundreds of books to find the information necessary for classes. Fortunately, technology has developed and everything can be done faster and more efficiently. Southern Utah University moves with the times and offers plenty of opportunities for students to use all the necessary technology, and help them when any problems occur.

The IT Help Desk and the Computer Labs are the two biggest IT (Information Technology) resources on campus. Knowing how to use them is significant for every SUU student–these are resources that shouldn’t be overlooked. Here is some information about how you can use them, and why!

IT Help Desk

IT Help Desk is located in the Student Center across from the Dining Hall in ST107. Here, they will do their best to answer any of your questions from WiFi connections to software errors. They will even help you with any course software or Electronic Textbooks, to the best of their ability. The IT Help desk can also help any student with each of the following:

Computer Accounts

IT Help Desk can help you if you have any questions about or problems with accessing software provided for free by SUU. These include Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office 365. They can help you with any issues with your SUU accounts, the username and password you use to log into everything on campus. This includes campus computers, student email, mySUU Portal, Registration, Grades, e-learning, etc.

Passwords

If you need to reset your SUU account password or want some advice on how to build a strong password so nobody can hack your account, you can talk to a specialist from the IT Help Center or find this information on their website.

Internet Access

You can find several networks on campus. “SUU” is the primary daily WiFi on campus for students and faculty/staff. If you have any issues connecting to one of SUU’s WiFi networks, IT Help Desk can be a great resource to help you.

Email

If you found an on-campus job and you need to create a working email or you just need to update your email address, you can find assistance at the IT Help Desk.

Computer Labs

Another great resource every student should know about and use is the computer labs.
SUU has computer labs all over the campus and they are super easy to use. All you need to do is find an available computer through the SUU Lab Usage tool and log into it using the same username and password you use on your mySUU account. Don’t forget to log out when you finish working! To guarantee a spot, schedule a computer.

All of SUU’s computer labs are equipped with programs such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office, among many others. Certain computer labs have more programs installed than others. Visit the SUU Help Desk’s website for a complete list of programs installed in each computer lab.

These free SUU IT resources can make your studies significantly more effective, so don’t forget about them and get the most bang for your buck during your time in college!
