Nourishing Your Success: A Guide to Food Resources at SUU

College life is a whirlwind of exams, social events, and late-night study sessions. Amidst that hustle, it can be easy to let a proper meal slide - but SUU believes that you can’t soar on an empty stomach. We are committed to the success of every student, and that starts with making sure you have access to nutritious, reliable food resources.
Whether you need a quick cooking lesson, a week’s worth of groceries, or a warm community meal, here is how the SUU family supports you.
The HOPE Pantry
The HOPE (Helping Our People Eat) Pantry isn't just a resource; it’s a pioneer. Established in 2002, it was the first campus-based pantry in Utah and remains a cornerstone of our campus community. Serving hundreds of students every week, the pantry provides free groceries ranging from staples like pasta and milk to essential toiletries like toothpaste and soap.
How to use the pantry:
- Make an Appointment: To ensure a smooth experience, you must schedule an appointment at least one day in advance.
- Access the Portal: Log into your MySUU Portal and click the “HOPE Pantry” link in the resource list on the right.
- Arrive Prepared: Show up on time for your slot, and remember to bring a photo ID.
Wecipe Wednesdays & The Test Kitchen
Knowing what to do with a bag of groceries can be half the battle. That’s where our educational programs come in to bridge the gap between "ingredients" and "dinner."
- Wecipe Wednesdays: Every Wednesday, follow @suuserve on Instagram for a short video demonstration of an easy recipe using HOPE Pantry ingredients. The best part? You can pick up a "recipe kit" from the pantry that includes most of the items you need to make it yourself.
- Thunderbird Test Kitchen: Join us most Tuesdays at 6 p.m. in the Nutrition Department’s teaching kitchen (General Classroom Building). These live demonstrations teach you how to whip up easy meals. Plus, you might even walk away with new kitchen gear like a rice cooker through their event drawings!
Bread & Soup Nite
One of the most beloved campus traditions is Bread & Soup Nite, a fundraiser hosted by the Community Engagement Center. It’s a moment where the spirit of SUU truly shines - bringing students and the community together for a simple, hearty meal.
For just $1 with a non-perishable food item (or $3 without), you can enjoy all-you-care-to-eat breads, soups, and desserts alongside family-friendly entertainment. It’s a great way to eat well while supporting the very pantry that helps your fellow T-Birds.
T-Bird Eats
For those living in on-campus housing or looking for variety and convenience, T-Bird Eats offers eight buffet-style stations where you can find everything from comfort food to healthy greens. Though meal plans require an upfront investment, they are designed with accessibility and convenience for the young college student in mind.
- Flexibility: Many plans include "meal exchanges," allowing you to use a swipe at the on-campus Chick-fil-A or Papa John's. Compare current meal plan rates.
We’re Here to Help
SUU believes in being industrious and purpose-driven, but we also believe in being a supportive guide for one another. If you are struggling to find your next meal or just need a little extra momentum to get through the week, please reach out.

You don't have to do this alone. This is where you belong, and this is where you soar.
