As Southern Utah University (SUU) continues their budget reinvestments under House Bill 265, the University has expanded its career support resources to better prepare students for their future. A major step in this effort is to connect coaches directly to an academic college, and the Career Center is happy to introduce Justie Martinez as the dedicated career coach for the Beverley Taylor Sorenson College of Education & Human Development (COEHD), and Exploratory Studies.
In this position, Martinez will work one-on-one with COEHD and Exploratory Studies students to help them identify and pursue career paths aligned with their strengths, interests, and long-term goals. Her role focuses on guiding students through career exploration, developing professional materials such as resumes and applications, and connecting them with experiential opportunities. She also collaborates with academic departments and employers to create events and programs that provide students with direct exposure to career pathways and industry professionals.
“I’m most excited about empowering students to feel confident and intentional about their career paths,” Martinez said. “Many students feel uncertain about their next steps, and I enjoy helping them gain clarity, build confidence, and leave with a clear plan and the skills to achieve it.”
Martinez holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Leadership, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing & Management from SUU, which has strengthened her skills in strategic thinking, communication, and data-informed decision-making.
She brings a diverse professional background that includes experience in grant management, pediatric therapy, and property management. These roles have strengthened her ability to communicate with a wide range of individuals, manage complex responsibilities, and adapt to different environments, which she hopes to help students navigate as well.
Bringing in new career coaches highlights SUU’s dedication to helping their students succeed and be prepared for their future career. By assigning coaches to a specific college, the university is building a stronger connection between academic training and meaningful career results. This new addition ensures that students graduate with real world readiness.
Students in the College of Education & Human Development (COEHD) and Exploratory Studies will begin working with Justie Martinez throughout each semester by personalized career coaching appointments and career focused events. For more information, visit the SUU Career Center.
