2023 Youth Engineering Academy Announced

The SUU Youth Engineering Academy (SUU YEA) is a K12 outreach program organized within the SUU College of Engineering and Computational Sciences. SUU YEA exposes kids from kindergarten to 12th grade to topics in engineering and computational sciences in a fun and engaging way. SUU YEA breaks down gender, racial, and income barriers to let all students know they can pursue careers in engineering fields if they desire.

SUU YEA will have two one-week day camps. The camps will run from 8:00am-3:00pm daily from Monday-Friday on the following weeks: July 10-14, 2023 and July 17-21, 2023

Ages 5-7 – ScratchJr
ScratchJr is a tablet-based language that was created by MIT and Tufts for exposing young children to programming logic through storyboarding and interactive game design in a drag-and-drop graphical interface.

Ages 8-10 – Scratch
Scratch is a language that was created by MIT for exposing elementary-aged children to programming through a drag-and-drop graphical interface.

Ages 11-13 – Web Development
Web Development teaches HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, which are the three primary languages used in front-end web development.

Ages 14-17 – Python
Python is a full-fledged professional programming language that is widely used in many industries around the world and taught in most collegiate Computer Science programs.
