Personal Data Collection - Privacy Notice
Southern Utah University (SUU) cares about your privacy and is committed to protecting it. This document explains how SUU gathers, uses, and secures your data. SUU will not sell your personal information. This Personal Data Collection - Privacy Notice is provided by SUU in compliance with Utah's Government Data Privacy Act (GDPA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA).
Information Collected
SUU collects personally identifiable information (PII) whenever you voluntarily provide it. PII is information that can uniquely identify you. This information may include name, email, physical address, mailing address, telephone number, date of birth, driver’s license number, employee id, credit card number, banking information, passport number, and social security number among others.
Use of Information/Data Sharing
When information is voluntarily provided to SUU, you acknowledge that SUU may use this data for the purposes for which it was provided and where permitted by federal or state law. Such purposes include but are not limited to:
- Providing requested goods or services
- Responding to inquiries
- Processing applications for admissions or employment
- Financial aid
- Scholarships
- Communication with students and employees
- Emergency situations
SUU may share some of your data with 3rd parties with whom SUU has a contract to provide the services listed above.
Keeping Your Information Secure
SUU has put in place appropriate security measures to protect your data. These measures include physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and help prevent unauthorized access. SUU does not intentionally release personal information obtained from your data input, except as required by law.
Data Retention
SUU retains your information for as long as needed to fulfill legal, business, and archival purposes. Some information may be retained indefinitely. Changing Your Information
To review or change your personal profile information (address, home phone, e-mail) see below:
- On the Web – Log into mySUU and visit your profile
- In Person – Visit the Registrar’s Office , the Alumni Office, or Human Resources

SUU wants you to feel comfortable using its services, knowing that your privacy is respected and protected. SUU welcomes your feedback on this notice, which is reviewed annually. Your Rights
- Access - You can request to see the data SUU holds about you
- Correction - You can request SUU to correct any inaccuracies in your data
- Deletion - You can request SUU to delete your data under certain conditions
- Refusal - You have the right to refuse to provide data to SUU. This will likely result in SUU not being able to provide or approve the service you requested
