Assessment Measure #1: Field Practicum Assessment (FPA)

The Field Practicum Assessment evaluates students’ demonstration of the nine social work competencies and associated behaviors during field education. Field instructors complete the assessment at the end of each field practicum semester.

Students are evaluated using the following scale:

1 = Unacceptable progress
2 = Inadequate progress
3 = Emerging competence
4 = Acceptable competence
5 = Exceptional competence

During field placement courses at the end of each semester, Fall, Spring and Summer. Hard copy available upon request.

Field Practicum Instructor

Outcome Measure Benchmark (minimum score indicative of achievement) for Competencies 1-9:

75% of students receive a score of 4 or 5 indicating acceptable performance.

Competency Benchmark (percent of students the program expects to have achieved the minimum scores, inclusive of all measures) for Competencies 1-9:

75% of students will demonstrate competence by meeting or exceeding the outcome measure benchmark.

Assessment Measure #2: SWEAP, Foundation Curriculum Assessment Instrument (SWEAP/FCAI)

The SWEAP Foundation Curriculum Assessment Instrument is an objective assessment of students’ knowledge related to the nine social work competencies. The instrument is administered electronically near program completion.

A student meets the outcome benchmark by answering at least 50% of the questions associated with a competency correctly. The program benchmark is that at least 50% of students meet or exceed the outcome benchmark.

The 2026 graduating cohort included students assessed during the program’s transition from the 2015 EPAS to the 2022 EPAS. The results reported below include the eight students who completed the 2022 EPAS version of the instrument. Results from the two versions were not combined.

A post-test is administered within two weeks of students completing the program. The pre- and post-tests are administered to students via online links.

50% of students answer multiple choice competency-related questions correctly.  

Competency Benchmark (percent of students the program expects to have achieved the minimum scores, inclusive of all measures) for Competencies 1-9:

50% of students will demonstrate competence by meeting or exceeding the outcome measure benchmark.
