Floridian-turned-Michiganite Ryan Turizo, who still raves about the southern Utah landscape, enjoys a career that would engender some large amount of envy among sports fans, as he visits with current and retired professional athletes for exclusive interviews for the YouTube feature “Behind the Jersey TV.”
As content creator for the show, which provides exclusive videographic interviews with popular retired and active athletes, Ryan adds an extra dose of fun to the mix with exciting sports trivia.
Also, he cracks open packs of the latest and vintage sports cards, uncovering hidden gems and cherished collectibles and adds an extra dose of fun to the mix.
“What I love most about my job is meeting athletes I grew up watching and building real relationships along the way. The most rewarding part is that this all started out as a passion—not something I did for money—but as the content grew, the opportunities came naturally,” he says.
“It’s been an incredible ride, and along the way I’ve built an amazing collection of gifted sports memorabilia just by visiting athletes’ homes, interviewing them, and helping them share their stories. Getting to live life, travel, and do what I love every day makes the work truly rewarding,” and he says he’s built real relationships through his work.
“I never started this for the money. It began as something I loved, and over time it naturally grew into opportunities to travel, collaborate with brands, and make an impact in the sports community,” he says. “Turning a personal passion into something sustainable and rewarding is something I take a lot of pride in.”
He credits the University for preparing him for a bright future.
“SUU gave me more than just academic knowledge. It gave me confidence, direction, and a strong foundation to build on. Through my coursework, especially in history, I developed critical thinking, communication, and research skills that apply to any career path. SUU also taught me discipline, accountability, and how to manage my time while pursuing my goals outside the classroom. Just as importantly, the supportive environment helped me believe in myself and take ownership of my future. SUU prepared me to keep growing, adapting, and chasing opportunities with purpose and confidence, no matter where life takes me next.”
