Graduate Information

Graduation Application Deadlines

Complete the application for graduation within the mySUU Portal. A $50 late fee will be applied to all late applicants. A $15 diploma fee is applied to ALL graduates; it is increased to $65 if applications are received past deadlines.

March 1, 2019: You will not graduate as a Fall 2018, Spring 2019 or Summer 2010 graduate if you do NOT apply for graduation by this date. This is also the last day to have your name printed in the commencement program and participate in the Spring 2019 Ceremonies.

All fees must be paid and your graduation survey completed before your transcript or diploma is released.

Grad Fair

All graduates will pick up their cap & gown at the Grad Fair on Thursday, May 2, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the SUU Alumni House, located on the corner of 300 West and University Boulevard. Ice cream will be provided, along with important information about graduation.

Unable to attend the Grad Fair? No problem. When you take the Grad Questionnaire, found in your portal and opens April 15, you can designate a classmate, friend or family member to pickup your regalia.

Medallion

(Bachelor's Degree Recipients Only)

Summa Cum Laude (combined GPA 3.8 or higher) or Magna Cum Laude (combined GPA 3.6 - 3.79999) medallions, awarded to graduates receiving a bachelor's degree, can be picked up at the Grad Fair. Graduates who qualify for a medallion will be notified in April. There is no charge for a medallion, and eligible graduates do not need to apply or order a medallion. To know whether your GPA qualifies you for a medallion or for answers to other questions regarding medallions, please email Sheila Johnson in the Registrar's Office. 

Regalia

Caps, gowns and tassels are required for all graduates to participate in both the university and individual college ceremonies. Purchase your cap and gown now

Associate's degree regalia includes dark blue gown, dark blue cap and white tassel.

Bachelor's degree regalia includes black gown, black cap and tassel (color of tassel corresponds with academic college).

Master's degree regalia includes a black gown that differs from the bachelor's robe, black cap, black tassel and hood (color of hood corresponds with master's degree program).

Regalia is purchased and not rented. Cap, gown, tassel and hood (if applicable) are yours to keep and do not need to be returned. No advance sizing necessary.

Stole of Gratitude

Write a thank you message on a stole to an individual who has made a positive impact on your education, wear your stole during commencement, and then present it to the individual for whom you are grateful following one of the commencement ceremonies. Each stole is white with SUU's red academic mark. Purchase now.

Grad Questionnaire

All graduates are required to complete a Grad Questionnaire. The questionnaire is in the mySUU Portal and will open two weeks before the end of your last semester. Contact SUU's Career Center or call 435-586-5420 if you have any questions. 

Ceremonies

All graduates are encouraged to attend the University Commencement Ceremony and their respective College Convocation Ceremonies unless excused by the Registrar's Office (435.586-7715;  johnson_s@suu.edu).

SUU does not hold a rehearsal for graduation ceremonies.

Lineup

Graduates should arrive for line-up one hour early, in graduation regalia, for both the University Commencement Ceremony and your college convocation to receive special instructions. See detailed map for lineup locations.

In case of inclement weather lineup will be in the Sharwan Smith Student Center.

Graduates with Family Members Graduating

Graduates who have spouses or immediate family members graduating in different colleges may request to have their degrees awarded in the same college. Requests must be made no later than Tuesday, May 1, at 5 p.m. The graduate wishing to switch his/her college convocation ceremony must make the request by emailing Sheila Johnson.

Graduation Announcements

CB Announcements is the official provider of graduation announcements for Southern Utah University. A company representative will be at the SUU Bookstore in February taking orders for personalized graduation announcements. Contact the SUU Bookstore at (435) 586-7995 for the exact date. Orders can also be placed at cbgrad.com and are typically shipped within 3-5 business days.  

The SUU Bookstore will have non-personalized graduation announcements (10/pack) available for purchase beginning in March. 

Graduation Photos

A professional photographer from Island Photography will be taking photographs of each graduate as they are recognized at the college convocations. Within 48 hours after your college convocation, you will be emailed a secure link and a PIN to view and order your photos. Register the emails of family and friends so they receive a direct link to your proofs. Flowers and T-Shirt

Floral bouquets and leis will be available for purchase at all three entrances to the America First Event Center and at the Randall Jones Theatre, along with a commemorative t-shirt. Purchase your flowers and t-shirt in advance, and then pick-up your order on site at any one of the booths. 

ADA Request

Please complete the ADA request form for all graduates & guests who will require special ADA accommodations Graduation weekend. Requests should be made by Tuesday, April 1, 2019.
