COHS Office of Research & Scholarship

The College of Health Sciences is excited to introduce the Office of Research and Scholarship (ORS). Our mission is to foster and support the innovative research and scholarly work of our faculty and students.

How We Can Help You Succeed:

  • Support for Faculty: The ORS is a dedicated resource to assist faculty in achieving their annual goals in research and scholarship. We are committed to providing the support you need to advance your work.
  • Opportunities for Students: The ORS offers valuable funding to present your research at professional conferences and meetings. We want to help you share your discoveries.

Our Team:

The Office of Research and Scholarship is a collaborative effort, led by the Associate Dean with support from the Dean, the college's Business Manager, student staff, and key committees focused on faculty scholarship and awards. We are all here to help you thrive.

Our Core Services

Here’s a look at the initiatives and support services the ORS manages.

Funding & Grant Support

  • For Faculty: We manage the Faculty Scholarly Support Fund (FSSF) to help cover travel costs for presenting at professional conferences. We also have a new ORS Fund to provide resources for your research projects and scholarly initiatives.
  • For Students: Through the UGRASP Fund, we offer financial support for undergraduate students to present their research or attend professional conferences.
  • External Funding: We partner with the university's Sponsored Programs, Agreements, and Research Contracts (SPARC) office to keep you informed about upcoming research funding opportunities.

Events & Recognition

We celebrate and showcase the outstanding research happening in the College of Health Sciences.

  • Student Scholarship Symposium: We host this annual event to feature student research, complete with guest speakers, presentations, poster sessions, and food.
  • Research Excellence Awards: In collaboration with the Awards Committee, we are creating new awards to recognize outstanding research and mentorship, such as a "Research Mentor of the Year" award.
  • Festival of Excellence: We recruit faculty members to represent our college on the organizing committee for the Festival of Excellence.

Collaboration & Outreach

We connect our researchers with opportunities on and off campus.

  • Building Partnerships: We actively support and foster interdisciplinary research collaborations with partners both within the university and in the wider community.
  • State-Level Opportunities: We work with the Utah Conference on Undergraduate Research (UCUR) to recruit students from our college to present at this annual statewide research conference.

Office Operations

  • Annual Report: We publish an annual report to highlight the exciting activities and achievements of our faculty and student researchers.
  • Future Growth: We are always exploring new ways to expand our programming and welcome your suggestions to better support the research and scholarship needs of our college.
