SUU’s Ballroom Tour Team Goes to Puerto Rico

Photo by Eric B. MelloThe Southern Utah University Ballroom Dance Company is one of SUU's outstanding performing groups and consists of the Tour Team, Intermediate Team, and Beginning Team. The focus of this company is performing ballroom dances such as the American swing, the elegant waltz, the cha cha, the rhythmic samba and many more.
The SUU Ballroom Dance Company puts on several campus and community events annually including Fall and Spring showcases. The SUU Ballroom Dance Company had their spring showcase, Shake That! on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m.

In addition the company reaches out to the surrounding community frequently doing performances for local organizations. This energetic group will keep you tapping your feet as you are entertained by wonderful music, beautiful costumes, and amazing dancing.

The SUU Ballroom Dance Company has toured throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, and Latin America over the years. The Ballroom Dance Company has quickly grown to become one of the premier performing groups on the SUU campus. This year the Tour Team will be traveling to Puerto Rico the first week of May to perform.

“I have been on the Ballroom Dance Company at SUU for many years now and it is absolutely my favorite part about going to school here,” said Samantha Adams, current president of the Ballroom Dance Company and SUU senior. “The Company this year is the biggest it’s been in probably 10 and the whole company has been working really hard all year. We would not be able to do any of it without the love and support of all College of Performing and Visual Arts faculty and our amazing Director Chandler Hall. I have loved being a part of this company and am so proud of all the teams this year and their hard work!”

The College of Performing and Visual Arts has four learning goals for all students in the college that build on the University’s mission and core themes, These are effective communication, to develop curiosity, critical and creative thinking skills, embrace global awareness, personal responsibility, and artistic integrity, and process the history, principles, training, skills, and knowledge associated with performing and visual arts to facilitate success in their chosen field.
