Data Breach Notification from National Student Clearinghouse

Published: June 30, 2023 | Author: Southern Utah University | Read Time: 1 minutes

The National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) was one of many entities recently impacted by a data security event involving the MOVEit Transfer tool, which NSC uses to accept data transfers. Many universities around the country, including Southern Utah University and institutions in the Utah System of Higher Education, transfer data through NSC for financial aid compliance purposes and could be impacted by this event.

SUU received notice that student data was accessed by an unauthorized party during a breach of NSC’s file transfer system. Some of the data that universities provide to NSC includes personally identifiable information such as social security numbers and dates of birth. But NSC has not yet identified what sensitive information was accessed. Learn more about NSC’s response to the event

SUU is committed to actively monitoring the situation and will share relevant future information it receives from NSC. This data security event did not impact SUU’s IT systems.
