Dallin Oyler at Duke UniversityOyler credits SUU’s personalized approach as a crucial factor in his academic growth and acceptance into Duke’s prestigious program.

"One of the biggest strengths of SUU was the smaller class sizes," Oyler said. "This helped me get to know my professors well and receive more one-on-one attention. Those personalized relationships allowed me to do better in my classes, and I’m sure it made my letters of recommendation stronger, too.”

Oyler also credits the mentorship he received from the SUU faculty for contributing to his success.

“A few of my most influential mentors at SUU have been Jessica Pullan in the Department of Chemistry, Keri Romine in International Affairs, and Celesta Lyman in the Department of Nutrition,” Oyler said. "Each helped me to excel in my classes, gave me the confidence to apply to grad school, and provided valuable experiences that I was able to draw on during applications and interviews.”

Beyond academics, Oyler has actively engaged in a variety of extracurricular activities, demonstrating a strong commitment to service and leadership. His involvement included organizations such as the International Student Association (ISA), the East Elementary Spanish immersion program, Days for Girls, and the HOPE Pantry. He also participated in genetic research projects which he had the opportunity to present both at SUU’s research symposium and at Utah Valley University.

Oyler's career aspirations focus on improving healthcare access, particularly for underserved Spanish-speaking and LGBTQ+ communities. He also has a strong interest in dermatology and hopes to pursue work in that field.

During his time at SUU, Oyler aimed to be a positive influence, hoping to be remembered for his kindness and genuine character. He continues to express deep gratitude for his time at SUU.

"I loved my experience as a T-Bird and I’m so grateful for all those who believed in me and championed me throughout my journey of getting into PA school,” Oyler said. "Being accepted at Duke is my dream, and I’m so glad I get to share this wonderful moment with all those who helped me get here.”
