The Graduate and Online Office at Southern Utah University (SUU Online) will be showcasing its innovative strategies for improving the student experience and success at two upcoming conferences in the higher education industry: academic advising and technology.
SUU Online, which continues to lead the university in enrollment growth, guides students on their journey from initial information gathering about colleges to graduation with an accredited degree.
Members of the department’s Advising team will present Unseen Heroes: Unlock the Power of Student Workers to Enhance Retention at the National Academic Advising Association’s (NACADA) Region 10 Conference in Salt Lake City in May.
“At last year’s conference, we noticed how many other colleges are struggling to meet the advising needs of students due to capacity issues,“ said Online Advisement Coordinator Seth Aiono. “We were asked to share our model because it solves this problem in a pretty simple and cost-effective way.”
Likewise, the SUU Online Admissions team will be showcasing their innovative use of technology at June’s SLATE Summit in Las Vegas. The session, Static to Slate-tastic! Contextual Checklist Feedback and FAQs That Speak for Themselves, will be presented with SLATE consultancy RHB. SLATE, by developer Technolutions, is the leading customer relationship management (CRM) system for higher education. The SLATE Summit is Technolution’s annual national conference.
“Providing students with relevant information throughout the admissions and onboarding process is crucial,” said SUU Online Director of Admissions and Advising Stephanie Jacobsen. “Delivering accurate details quickly and efficiently can significantly impact a student’s decision to choose your institution.”
SUU Online’s Associate Vice President of Enrollment Steve Meredith praised his team’s efforts saying, “I am extremely proud of our dedicated team that is thinking beyond the box to improve the student experience and retention. Most importantly, their efforts make a big difference in helping students improve their lives through education.”
