CEDAR CITY, Utah – Southern Utah University (SUU) is proud to announce that its Department of Nursing has once again been recognized with the prestigious Nursing Colleges of Distinction Award for the 2025-2026 academic year. This marks the sixth consecutive year SUU's nursing program has earned this national distinction.
This recognition comes from Colleges of Distinction, a nationally recognized organization that connects students and parents with universities across the country, aiding them in their college search. The Nursing Colleges of Distinction Award is granted to institutions that demonstrate exceptional dedication to student engagement, academic stability, and practical learning experiences.
The selection process for this award rigorously evaluates several key areas, including engaged students, validation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, a track record of stability and excellence, high National Council Licensure Examination pass rates, and robust practical experiences offered through diverse clinical opportunities.
“With a shortage of capable nurses in Utah, it is increasingly important that nursing programs focus on student success,” said Professor Suzie Campbell, Department Chair of Nursing, upon reception of the 2024-2025 distinction. “This award, along with other awards that SUU has received, is evidence that SUU Nursing is preparing compassionate, skilled, and proficient nurses.”
The Department of Nursing at SUU provides academic programs that prepare individuals for professional nursing practice at many levels. These programs offer a learning-centered education that meets the requirements for a baccalaureate or master's degree at Southern Utah University and ensures that graduates have the abilities to be successful professional nurses.
