The Frehner Museum of Natural History at Southern Utah University is opening "Energy Beneath Our Feet," a new permanent exhibit on geothermal energy. The exhibit, built by the Frehner Museum of Natural History, with funding provided by Fervo Energy, will feature an interactive underground and above-ground look at the Fervo Energy site in Milford, Utah.
"Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) are new and innovative, said Dylan Kirklin, director of the SUU STEM Center for Teaching & Learning. "Even to those in the energy industry, this is a new concept that is cutting-edge, and it is incredible that it is right here in our backyard. This exhibit gives an overview of what is being done here in southern Utah.
Some of the exhibit elements are from SUU's Geothermal Professional Development Course, created by the SUU Workforce Development team.
"Weaving online learning together with in-person learning helps create a nice overview of these geothermal systems and how they affect us in the community," said Kirklin.
The exhibit will include an interactive model with LED lighting, as well as a digital touchscreen to explore jobs in geothermal.
"The Frehner is visited by thousands of community members and K-12 students each year," said Kirklin. "With less than 70 miles between Cape Station in Milford, Utah, and the Frehner, it makes it a free and easily accessible location where people can go to learn about this innovative technology."
"Energy Beneath Our Feet" will debut to the public on March 31, during the museum's open hours, 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. During this time, anyone is welcome to visit and view the new geothermal exhibit.
