SUU Launches New Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Sales to Meet Growing Industry Demand

Southern Utah University (SUU) is proud to announce the launch of a new Bachelor of Science in Professional Sales, an on-campus degree program starting in fall 2026. Designed in close collaboration with industry leaders, the program prepares students for high-impact careers by combining practical sales strategies, business fundamentals, technology, and real-world communication skills.
The new major marks a significant milestone for one of the fastest-growing academic initiatives on campus. What began in 2021 as a workforce development grant and a certificate program, followed by a minor, has expanded into a full four-year degree designed to help students turn ambition into career momentum.
"Sales isn't a personality trait some people are born with. It's a skill you build through repetition, feedback, and real pressure, and that's exactly what this program is designed to deliver," said Dr. Travis Simkins, department head of Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Sales and Analytics (MESA) at the Dixie L. Leavitt School of Business. "Our students pitch to real industry professionals, compete against other universities, and learn early that honesty and preparation beat any sales trick in the book."
The 120.5-credit curriculum gives students the opportunity to achieve a well-rounded sales education, blending core business and marketing coursework with specialized sales training, customer relationship technology, psychology and persuasive communication. Developed alongside the SUU Professional Sales Advisory Board and industry hiring partners, the program ensures students master the complete sales lifecycle from lead generation and territory management to data-driven decision-making.
By focusing on hands-on practice, mentorship, and practical application, the program reflects SUU's commitment to career-focused learning and personal student support.
