SUU Hosts 2026 Fall Creative Writing Conference and Utah Humanities Book Festival October 7–9

Southern Utah University (SUU) invites students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members to campus Oct. 7-9 for the Fall Creative Writing Conference as part of the annual Utah Humanities Book Festival. Hosted in collaboration with Utah Humanities, The University of Utah Press, SUU's Department of English, and the Grace A. Tanner Center, the event will feature a free series of literary readings, talks, and presentations on campus, offering a welcoming space for storytellers and audiences to connect, share ideas, and celebrate the power of written work.
The festival lineup spans three consecutive days, highlighting diverse voices from regional authors, environmental storytellers, and SUU's own alumni community:
- Tanner Center Talk: Creative Nonfiction and Poetry Readings
- When: Wednesday, October 7, 5:30 - 7 p.m.
- Where: Huntsman Reading Room, SUU Sharratt Library
- Featuring: Authors Nicole Walker and Christopher Nelson
- APEX Event: "The Once and Future Lake: Stories for the Great Salt Lake" Anthology
- When: Thursday, October 8, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
- Where: Gilbert Great Hall, SUU Hunter Alumni Center
- Featuring: Michael McLane
- SUU Creative Writing Alumni Reading and Festival Keynote
- When: Friday, October 9, 6:30 - 8 p.m.
- Where: Theater, SUU Sharwan Smith Student Center
- Featuring: Shauri Thacker, Jamison Conforto, and Sydney Beal-Cole, introduced by alumnus Christopher Nelson, followed by Keynote Author Sam Weller presenting on banned books and The Bradbury Chronicles: The Life of Ray Bradbury.
