SUU First Year Experience and Orientation

Parent & Family Orientation

Parent & Family Orientation offers two short orientations during Move-in day. This is an opportunity to learn about the exciting new experiences that await your student as they enter Southern Utah University. Parents and guardians are strongly encouraged, but not required, to attend this exciting day.

By attending Parent & Family Orientation, you will:

  • Gain an understanding of the resources available to SUU students and parents
  • Feel more connected to the University
  • Be better prepared to support and empower your student
  • Understand the University's academic expectations

Parent & Family Programs

August 23, 2017

Move-In Day (9 AM - 5 PM) - Move-in is strongly encouraged for both on-campus and off-campus students. SUU will also offer many additional activities for both you and your student to participate in.

Info Sessions (9 AM - 4 PM) - Most services and colleges on campus will host an info session so you will be able to get a feel for student life. You will have the chance to attend these with your student.

Parent Orientation (10 AM & 2 PM) - Please choose one of these times in order to receive important information you will need as a parent. Both sessions will be held in the Sharwan Smith Student Center Ballroom.

President’s Dessert Party (7 - 8 PM) - Both parents and students are invited to meet the President, his Cabinet, and the Academic Deans in this open reception. (optional)

Movie on the Field (8 - 11 PM) - You and your student are both invited to attend a free show on the practice fields.

August 24th

Parent Goodbyes/Thunder U Check-in (9 - 11 AM) - At check-in students will be added to their Tavi student groups. We ask that you plan on saying your goodbyes at or before this time.

First Time College Student Parent Reception (9 - 11 AM) - Admission is free but RSVP is strongly encouraged.

New Student Induction (11 AM - 12 PM) - Parents will have a reserved section of the student center to watch as their students are inducted into the incoming class.

Bell-tower Tradition (12 - 1 PM) - High-five your student as they cross under the Bell Tower. This is a long held tradition of SUU. They won’t pass under the Bell Tower again until their graduation day. It is pretty inspiring, so bring some tissues & cheer your student on.

October 6 - 8, 2017

Parent Weekend - For the whole family, you won’t want to miss it!
