Helping Your Student Get Involved

Involvement outside the classroom is a vital part of your student's overall success and experience as a student. You can play an important role in your student's involvement by encouraging them to look for opportunities to get involved, asking questions about clubs they have joined, events they have attended, and ways they feel connected to campus.

Clubs and Organizations

  • T-Bird ConnectionLearn more about on-campus clubs, organizations, and involvement opportunities here.  Your student can also use this site to request to join a club.
  • Club Fair: Each semester, the Student Involvement and Leadership Office will host a club fair for students to get to know organizations and clubs on campus.
  • Your student can check with favorite professors for information about important clubs, events, and honor societies in their department.
  • If your student has additional questions or wants to start their own club, stop by the Student Involvement and Leadership Office located in the Sharwan Smith Student Center (ST 177).

Events

  • Our Student Programming Board offers large group and small group activities on campus each week. Your student can download the SUU app to get daily event notifications.
  • Our T-Bird Athletics has a full schedule of amazing teams. Students get in free to athletic events with their student ID.
  • Our College of Performing and Visual Arts hosts numerous performances and events throughout the year, many free to students with student ID.
  • Students can stop by the Outdoor Center Basecamp in the Student Center for outdoor gear rentals and sign-ups for 50 free outdoor trips each school year.
  • Students can sign up for the Community Engagement Center weekly newsletter for information about service opportunities and service trips.
  • Most campus activities will be included on the SUU calendar of events.

Takeaway:

  • Your student can download the SUU app to get information on campus events.
  • Students can follow any clubs or organizations that interest them on social media. Some good ones to start with are @SUUTbirds, @suustudentlife, and @TheNestatSUU.
  • Parents can follow SUU Parent and Family Services on Facebook and SUUParents on Instagram to stay up to date on campus events and activities that may interest your student. If your student likes to have some encouragement, you can help by being aware of what is happening on campus.
