SUBJECT: Computer Software Licensing


I. PURPOSE

The purpose of this Policy is to state the University’s Policy on the authorized use of computer software.

IV. POLICY

  1. The University is committed to obey all software copyright laws and software licensing agreements. The illegal copying of software, illegal sharing of software, and illegal redistribution of software is expressly forbidden. Violating this Policy can expose the University to civil and criminal penalties.
  2. Faculty and staff who use computer software must honor license agreements and software copyrights.
  3. In the event questions arise about the legal use of software, those questions should first be directed to the Chief Information Officer.
  4. College/departments. If a College, School, department, or a division acquires software for their own specific use then they must maintain accurate records so that compliance can be legally proven.
