Resources for online students at SUUStudents coming to campus for their first-year may feel overwhelmed, but typically their fears and worries dissipate within a few days as they are introduced to the variety of helpful resources that are available to them on campus. These resources range from the Diversity and Inclusion Center to the Financial Aid Office and even the Veterans Resource and Support Center.

Online students likely have similar concerns, but initially may feel that they have less resources available to them because they are not physically present on campus. Throughout the course of the next few minutes, it is our hope that students gain a better understanding of the resources that Southern Utah University provides to their online students in an effort to help them find success, wherever they are.

Tutoring Center

The Tutoring Center at Southern Utah University now offers online tutoring options for students who are not on-campus.

“Our tutors are outstanding undergraduate students recommended by SUU faculty. They have received top grades in their courses and bring experience, expertise, and enthusiasm to learning. Tutoring helps students to improve course content knowledge and study strategies and is designed to support the individual learning goals of our students.”

Students can request one-on-one recurring sessions with a tutor by submitting a request here. So, whether you just need help with one particular chapter or aspect in the course, or want to set up recurring times with a tutor, these options are available to you.

Canvas Help Desk

Are you a new or returning student with questions about navigating the Canvas learning system? The Canvas Help Desk offers technical support for students utilizing Canvas, Help Desk tutorials, and general help for students using Canvas. Don’t hesitate to reach out to the help desk with your technical questions.

Veterans Resource and Support Center

SUU's Veterans Resource and Support Center helps to retain and graduate military-connected students with programs and services designed to support military-connected students as they pursue their education goals and the skills needed to lead productive and meaningful lives. Reach out to the Veterans Resource and Support Center via email at veterans@suu.edu or phone at (435) 865-8477 to receive personalized help if you fit in this category.

Diversity and Inclusion Center

SUU has students from over 39 countries and 5% of the student body are international. These two statistics do not account for all the diversity that this institution has, though. Students come to SUU to study from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. The Diversity and Inclusion Center is another way for students to make connections, and validates the multiple identities present on our campus, while integrating the voices and experiences of marginalized people. The CDI collaborates with campus partners to foster a learning environment that respects multiple perspectives and differences through multicultural clubs, workshops, trainings, and cultural programming. Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to broaden your horizons and learn more about being inclusive.

Advising (Student Outreach Team)

The Online Outreach Team is your one-stop-shop for all your needs from now until graduation. We are a team of Peer Success Advisors (PSAs) and Student Success Advisors (SSAs) who will help you understand your program, graduate requirements, financial aid, and student resources available at SUU. If we don’t know the answer, we know where to get it. Student and Peer Success Advisors are here to help answer your questions from admission to graduation. If you have a large or small concern, the Student Outreach Team should be your go-to.

Disability Support Center

The Disability Support Center is available to students in an effort to provide support and services to those with disabilities, to help them succeed despite their educational difficulties and individual challenges. If this is something you could benefit from, do not hesitate to reach out to the Disability Support Center, they are here to help you succeed in both your classes, and help set you on a path to success throughout your life.

Career and Professional Development Center

The Career and Professional Development Center provides opportunities for students to learn about and discuss how to improve personal resumes and cover letters, find on-campus and off-campus jobs and internships, and so much more. The career center also prepares students for potential job interviews. For students who may need guidance or direction in regard to their major, a job, or how to reach their professional goals--this is the resource for you.

Writing Center

Undergraduate and graduate students alike often need help with drafting, editing, and perfecting essays, projects, and assignments. Booking an online session with a tutor at the Writing Center can be advantageous and constructive, helping you to receive higher grades and the opportunity to improve your writing skills as a whole.

Speech & Presentation Center

Similar to the writing center, the Speech & Presentation Center is designed to “assist students, faculty, staff and community members in improving their abilities to write and present speeches.” This skill is one that is a necessity in many occupations in society today. Online students can schedule an appointment through Zoom to receive constructive feedback in regard to their speech or presentation.

This list is just the beginning of resources available to online students. SUU has invested much in providing ALL students (non-traditional, online, on-campus, etc.) a wonderful collegiate experience, by ensuring that the resources they need are available.
