Campus resources for online studentsStudents coming to campus for their first year may feel overwhelmed, but typically their fears and worries dissipate within a few days as they are introduced to the variety of helpful resources that are available to them on campus.

Online students likely have similar concerns, but initially may feel that they have fewer resources available to them because they are not physically present on campus. This is far from the truth, many on-campus resources at Southern Utah University are also available and easily accessible for online students.

Academic Resources for Online Students

Tutoring Center

The Tutoring Center at SUU offers online tutoring options for students who are not on campus. Tutoring helps students to improve course content knowledge and study strategies and is designed to support the individual learning goals of our students.

Students have two options in their tutoring endeavors. The first is a drop-in help which is shorter but can be used for quick access to support. The other option is to request one-on-one recurring sessions with a tutor. Whether you need help with one particular chapter or aspect of the course or want to set up recurring times with a tutor, these options are available to you.

Book an appointment with the Tutoring Center.

Canvas Help Desk

Are you a new or returning student with questions about navigating the Canvas learning system? The Canvas Help Desk offers technical support for students utilizing Canvas, Help Desk tutorials and general help for students using Canvas. Don’t hesitate to reach out to the help desk with your technical questions.

Advising (Student Outreach Team)

The Online Outreach Team is your one-stop shop for all your needs from now until graduation. This team of Peer Success Advisors (PSAs) and Student Success Advisors (SSAs) will help you understand your program, graduate requirements, financial aid, and student resources available at SUU. And if they don’t know the answer, they know where to find it. Student and Peer Success Advisors are here to help answer your questions from admission to graduation.

If you have a large or small concern, the Student Outreach Team should be your go-to.

Writing Center

Undergraduate and graduate students alike often need help with drafting, editing, and perfecting essays, projects, and assignments. Booking an online session with a tutor at the Writing Center can be advantageous and constructive, helping you to receive higher grades and the opportunity to improve your writing skills as a whole.

Speech & Presentation Center

Similar to the Writing Center, the Speech & Presentation Center is designed to assist students, faculty, staff and community members in improving their abilities to write and present speeches. This skill is one that is a necessity in many occupations in society today. Online students can schedule an appointment through Zoom to receive constructive feedback in regard to their speech or presentation.

Resources for Nontraditional Students

Center for Diversity and Inclusion

Students come to SUU to study from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) is another way for students to make connections, and validates the multiple identities present on campus, while integrating the voices and experiences of marginalized people. The CDI collaborates with campus partners to foster a learning environment that respects multiple perspectives and differences through multicultural clubs, workshops, trainings, and cultural programming. Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to broaden your horizons and learn more about being inclusive.

Disability Support Center

The Disability Support Center is available to students in an effort to provide support and services to those with disabilities, to help them succeed despite their educational difficulties and individual challenges.
