Posted: March 04, 2026 | Author: SUU | Read Time: 2 minutes
Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, Audrey Hall graduated from Shadow Ridge High School before beginning her academic journey at Southern Utah University in 2022. In her time here,
Audrey has led the SUU community gardens, where she connected with the Greenhouse Manager Angela Patiño, and later worked under her as a Greenhouse Intern through the IIC program.
Currently, Audrey is working with her advisor, Patiño, on a research project aimed at integrating more native plant spaces across campus. Their pilot areas include the park strip locations near the community garden and athletic center, where they are testing which native plants thrive best in these environments. The project seeks to show that native landscaping can support local insects and wildlife while remaining both functional and visually appealing.
A major highlight of her time at SUU has been receiving the Gibson-Skaggs Research Grant, which supports undergraduate researchers across the College of STEM. Audrey values this award not only as a personal achievement but also for the meaningful change and progress it helps create throughout campus.
One of her favorite aspects of studying at SUU is the strong sense of community. Audrey has built meaningful relationships with professors, peers, and staff who have had a lasting and positive impact on her academic and personal journey.
Looking ahead, Audrey hopes to pursue a career in ecology or conservation biology. While she finds all areas of biology fascinating, her particular passion lies in botany, which continues to guide her academic interests and research focus.
Beyond academics, she has developed a strong passion for sustainability during her time at SUU. Audrey encourages fellow students to get involved in sustainability efforts in ways that feel accessible, such as joining campus clubs, recycling, biking to school, or participating in the student sustainability community. She hopes that more students discover their own role in creating positive environmental change.
