The Ivory Women Student Success Initiative aims to enhance the education opportunities and business experiences for female students at Southern Utah University. Ivory Scholars take classes that help them learn to lead in business. Additionally, they compete in statewide competitions, plan, and host SUU business events, and attend business conferences. Ivory Scholars also complete a Women in Leadership certification program, which will help them apply for future leadership positions and build lasting impact in their communities.


Our Mission

The objective of the initiative is to empower female students by improving their business acumen, networking skills, career opportunities, and belonging in the business community.

Our Focus

Through classes and extra-curricular activities, Ivory Scholars develop the leadership skills needed to excel in careers; Ivory Scholars organize and participate in activities that require innovative and problem-solving abilities; Ivory Scholars are prepared for community, professional, and personal opportunities throughout their life.

Our Goal

We have four goals: 1) teach the skills necessary for women to lead in business; 2) mentor and encourage students to pursue careers in business; 3) build a network of women supporting women in business; and 4) improve the business acumen of every student.

Our Sponsor

The values of the Clark and Christine Ivory Foundation to educate, innovate, build, and support are reflected as this program will empower female students in rural Utah for future roles as business leaders in the state of Utah. By developing female business leaders at SUU, the Ivory Foundation will be helping to sustain communities and improve the equitable role of women in Southern Utah.

Ivory Scholars News

Program Offering

Students at Southern Utah University complete a Women in Leadership Certification program, which helps them apply for future leadership positions and builds lasting impact in their communities. To earn the SUU Women Leadership Certification, students must complete the following requirements:

  • MGMT 4900 – Women Leading in Business Duration: 14 weeks | Credit Hours: 3 | Fall
    A special topics course for junior and senior business majors students helping to develop future women as they lead in business.
  • MGMT 4950 – Women Advancing Together Duration: 14 weeks | Credit Hours: 3 | Spring
    The capstone course for junior and senior business majors who are completing their Women in Business certification. This course empowers students to become future leaders in business environments.
  • Compete in a Women in Business Competition

  • Attend a Women in Business Conference
