Commencement Updates

Watch Graduation Livestreams

  • 66th Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to be Southern Utah University's 2020 Commencement Speaker. 
  • Represent the Class of 2020 as the student speaker at the 9 a.m. University Commencement Ceremony on April 24. Submit your original and complete speech (4-5 minutes in length) to Jen Burt at burt@suu.edu no later than February 18, 2020. The student selected will receive a $500 award.
  • February 15, 2020, is the last day to submit your application, have your name printed in the Commencement program, and participate in the Spring 2020 Ceremonies. A $50 late may be applied to your application which can be found within the mySUU Portal.

University Festivities

8:30 a.m. - Commencement Procession
Traditional procession that begins on Upper Campus and ends at the America First Event Center. All graduates will walk under the Carter Carillon, and are asked to be on Upper Campus at 8:00 a.m. to line up. 

9:00 a.m. - University Commencement, America First Event Center
The formal ceremony to confer degrees upon SUU's Class of 2020. This university-wide ceremony includes the awarding of honorary doctorate degrees, a student speaker, and a keynote address by 66th Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Doors open at 7:30 a.m.

10:30 a.m. - Graduation Celebration, Multi-Purpose Quad
An informal gathering of graduates with their family, friends, professors, and other guests before leaving campus. Free and open to all. 

Academic College Convocations

Each graduate is individually recognized, called to walk and accept their diploma in their respective academic college ceremony. ALL master's degree candidates (graduate degrees) receive their diplomas in their respective college convocation ceremonies. 

11:30 a.m. - College of Humanities & Social Sciences, including associate's of science degree in criminal justice, legal studies, and paralegal studies; America First Event Center.
12:30 p.m. - College of Performing & Visual Arts; Randall Jones Theatre.
1:30 p.m. - Beverley Taylor Sorenson College of Education & Human Development; America First Event Center. 
3:30 p.m. - Walter Maxwell Gibson College of Science & Engineering, including associate's of science degrees in CAD/CAM, construction technology, equine sciences, information technology, and livestock farm management; America First Event Center. 
5:30 p.m. - Dixie L. Leavitt School of Business; America First Event Center.
