Southern Utah UniversityFor the first time in Southern Utah University’s history, SUU will host the Digital Humanities Utah 7th Symposium (DHU7) on February 24 and 25, 2023. The Symposium welcomes humanities scholars from across the Intermountain West and beyond. In particular early career scholars, graduate students, newcomers to the digital humanities, and members of traditionally underrepresented groups.

"DHU7 is the first time SUU has hosted a conference centered on the digital humanities,” said Dr. Julie McCown, assistant professor of English at SUU, and DHU7 chair. “It is a great opportunity for scholars in Utah and beyond to gather and discuss their latest research and ideas. It is also a chance to hear about Dr. Marika Cifor's important new book that examines the role of digital cultures in the archiving the history of AIDS activism."

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Marika Cifor, assistant professor in the Information School and adjunct faculty member in gender, women, and sexuality studies at the University of Washington. She will be speaking about her talk "Going Viral: Mobilizing AIDS Archives in Digital Cultures" which will be about her recent book, Viral Cultures: Activist Archiving in the Age of AIDS. The keynote event is open to everyone and will be held on February 25 at 1 p.m. in the Whiting Room of SUU’s Hunter Alumni Center.

Additional guests from Brigham Young University, Utah Tech University, and University of Utah, will be holding workshops and panel discussions.

The conference will bring digital humanities scholars from around the state to SUU to present on their work. DHU7 is organized by SUU and is supported and sponsored by SUU's English Department, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Gerald R. Sherratt Library, and the Grace A.
