In addition to his academic work, McCollum has held several industry positions with educational training firms and language testing companies. These roles reinforced the importance of effective, professional communication in workplace settings, an emphasis that continues to shape his teaching philosophy today. His international background and global perspective further inform his approach to communication and language learning.

Known for his innovative teaching, McCollum also works extensively with virtual reality (VR) and emerging technologies to enhance communication and language learning. He has shared his ideas on global education and communication on an international stage, including delivering a TED Talk on intelligible listening.

McCollum has already begun his instruction of business students, and the Dixie L. Leavitt School of Business is pleased to welcome him to the faculty and is confident his expertise will have a lasting impact on students and the academic community.
