SUU Dancers performing togetherDance

The SUU Dance program nurtures artist-citizens through holistic training, research, and creative practice. Students interrogate dance as a dynamic form of communication that shapes communities and global culture. Engaging with the historical and scientific foundations of dance, coursework fosters critical thinking, creative agency, self-directed learning, and strong communication skills across movement, speech, and writing. Graduates emerge as well-rounded professionals, prepared to navigate the full spectrum of the dance field--including education, performance, choreography, and administration--while promoting personal and community well-being.

Our program offers mentorship from industry professionals and opportunities to perform in mainstage productions choreographed by faculty, guest artists, and student peers. With equal emphasis on Jazz, Modern, and Ballet techniques, our curriculum provides a comprehensive foundation in concert dance forms. Faculty and student work have been recognized at prestigious platforms such as the American College Dance Association Conference, the Dance Studies Association, the Women In Dance Leadership Conference, Corps de Ballet International, the National Dance Education Organization, WHITE WAVE SoloDuo Dance Festival, RADfest, and the American Educational Research Association, among many others, showcasing the excellence and impact of our program.
