What is a master's of sports conditioning and performanceThe Master of Science in Sports Conditioning and Performance (MSSCP) program at Southern Utah University follows an innovative approach to meet the needs of coaches, physical educators, personal trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, physical therapists, athletic trainers and other fitness professionals.

If you’ve wanted to be a personal trainer, a sports coach, or a physical therapist, sports conditioning and performance may be just the right track for you. Furthermore, the master’s program at SUU is completely online, other than the clinical workshops over the summer that take place in Cedar City, Utah.

Master of Science in Sports Conditioning and Performance Curriculum

The curriculum for the MSSCP program at SUU consists of 21 credits of required courses and 12 credits of elective courses to choose from. Required courses include foundations of sports conditioning, advanced techniques of sports conditioning, designing resistance training programs, resistance training techniques, evaluation of sport fitness, introduction to sport science research and statistics and a thesis in sport conditioning and performance.

Elective courses include athletic training and sport medicine, psychological aspects of sport performance and conditioning, motor skill acquisition, bioenergetics and sports nutrition, and a variety of special topics courses.

There are a variety of career paths you can take after graduating with a Master of Sports Conditioning and Performance including physical therapist, strength conditioning coach, athletic trainer, exercise physiologist and sports therapist.
