Studying General Studies at Southern Utah University allows students to manage the direction of their undergraduate education, and select courses from a wide variety of offerings. This degree is ideal for self-directed learners who want to develop an undergraduate degree that reflects their particular interests, in collaboration with an academic advisor.

Program Requirements

To graduate with a Bachelor’s degree with a major in General Studies, the student is required to complete the SUU General Education curriculum and the BS (12 credits of Math or Science) or BA (16 credits of foreign language) requirement. Additionally, the General Studies degree requires students to complete a minimum of 54 credits, including the General Studies Core Courses (GS 4010 – General Studies Research Seminar and GS 4020 – General Studies Capstone). Of the required 54 credits, a minimum of 21 credits must be upper-division credits (3000-4999).

A formal General Studies degree plan must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office, after being approved by the student, Academic Advisor, and Department Chair before the student’s graduation application will be reviewed.

Other SUU graduation requirements include: 2.0 GPA (SUU and overall), 120 total credits, 40 upper-division credits, and 30 credits from SUU.
