Club Descriptions
There are four types of Clubs and Organizations here at SUU.
University Sponsored Organizations (USOs)
Sponsored by a department on campus. The mission of the USO aligns with the departmental mission and has educational outcomes.
Leadership
- A full-time employee serves as an advisor but students lead the organization and manage events and funding.
- Club presidents handle Clubs app, event request details, roster and annual re-registration with SUUSA.
Finance
- The sponsoring department manages the USO's finances, including purchasing and audits.
- Clubs can request up to $500 per semester from SUUSA for student-open activities.
Details
- Membership must be open to all students.
- Events that are held on campus are covered by campus liability insurance.
- Allowed to access university branding.
Independent Student Clubs (ISCs)
Club leaders manage the organization, events, activities, members, and funding requests.
Leadership
- The club president manages event request/approvals and annual re-registration.
Finance
- Clubs can request up to $500 per semester from SUUSA for student-open activities, with spending managed by the SUUSA Clubs team.
- SUUSA oversees financial aspects of ISC for its funds, while ISC manages donations and other non-SUUSA funds.
Details
- Membership must be open to all students.
- Clubs can request campus facilities for low-risk activities, while medium and high-risk activities need ISC liability insurance and a facility use agreement.
- No access to SUU branding or trademarks is allowed.
Department Sponsored Groups (DSGs)
A group that is part of a department on campus and the department is fully fiscally responsible for the group. The mission of the DSG aligns with and supports the departmental mission.
Leadership
- A university employee leads the group and manages events, while students may hold designated leadership roles.
Finance
- The department manages DSG finances, including purchasing and audits. Note: DSGs cannot request funds from SUUSA.
Details
- Membership is open to all students, though some may be limited by college or major.
- Students may pay fees or dues, and some positions may be compensated.
- Events occur on campus or at sponsor locations, with campus events covered by liability insurance. , 38]
- Organizations can use university branding.
Competitive Sports Organizations (CSOs)
Campus Recreation Department manages the club, with an annual partnership review.
Leadership
- The club president manages document management, event requests and annual re-registration and waiver completion-as agreed upon by campus rec.
Finance
- May request up to $500/semester from SUUSA for activities open to all students.
- The Campus Recreation Department manages the financial aspects of the USO via an index: purchasing, receipts, club balances, and audits.
Details
- Members must sign a waiver assuming liability for injuries and indemnifying SUU.
- Membership must be open to all genders unless exempted by Title IX.
- Members represent SUU and follow the code of conduct off-campus.
- Student teams in CSOs may need to show proof of insurance before participating.
- Outside competitors must sign a waiver for competitions at SUU.
- Organizations can use university branding.
