• Get helpful feedback on your business.
• Build your network by meeting like-minded students, faculty, alumni, and judges.
• Receive a veteran entrepreneur as a mentor from SUU’s ELC.

• Three ways to get cash:

  1. Every student business that has either A) at least one sale or B) at least one investor automatically qualifies for $100 for participating in Business Breakthrough.
  2. Credits of $20 will be given to the first 150 students and judges to be spent on student businesses at the event. Students and judges can pay out of pocket as well, so there is no upper limit to what you can sell. 
  3. Two student businesses will be selected to represent SUU at the statewide Utah Entrepreneur Challenge, March 22nd in Salt Lake City. Both will receive an additional $750 and will compete for much more at the event.

Your application consists of a 90-second Video to include the following information.

• Overview Include the most important points about your business, including mission statement and history
• Product or service Describe the product or service for sale, your competitive advantage, and intellectual property (if applicable).
• Marketing Who is your target market, and who are your competitors? How do customers see your product relative to the competition?
• Sales strategy What is your distribution channel? What are your key partnerships? How can you grow revenues over time?
• Revenue model Describe how your business generates revenue. Include the cost to produce, cost to sell, and market price for the product or service.
• Team Describe who is currently on your team and their role. Include current and future personnel needs.

• Application deadline: Sunday, February 9th 
• Finalist notification: Wednesday, February 12
• Showcase: Tuesday, February 18th, 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM. Options for setup will be provided to you with your acceptance letter. 
• (Optional) Enter the Utah Entrepreneur Challenge Thursday, February 20th: At Business Breakthrough, two students will be selected to automatically qualify for this event and will receive an additional $800. 
  • There are $75,000 in prizes at the Utah Entrepreneur Challenge. 
  • If you are offered the opportunity to represent SUU at the Utah Entrepreneur Challenge, you need to enter the Utah Entrepreneur Challenge. 
  • We invite all participants to enter, as ten students who did not automatically qualify will be invited to compete at the Utah Entrepreneur Challenge.

• The team must be organized by a student from SUU.
• The founding student must be registered for a minimum of six  (6) credit hours
• The student team members must be involved in all aspects of the competition.

• A maximum of 30 student businesses will be accepted for participation
• We recommend you set up your table to be as inviting to potential customers and judges as possible.
