Accelerated Nursing - Concurrent Enrollment Pathway
Our Accelerated Nursing Concurrent Enrollment (CE) Pathway helps lead high school students toward their career in nursing. By following a focused plan starting in high school, students will get their necessary credentials, while saving time and money on their education.

Phase 1: The High School Start
To enter the accelerated nursing pathway, you will focus on two types of Concurrent Enrollment (CE) courses: your Nursing Core and your General Education (GE) Fast Track.
Required Nursing Classes
These are the foundational science and math courses required to stay on the accelerated timeline.
| Year | Fall Semester | Spring Semester | Summer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Junior Year (10 credits) | - General Biology 1 (BIOL 1610) - Elementary Chemistry & Lab (CHEM 1110/1115) |
- General Biology 1 (BIOL 1610) - Human Nutrition (NFS 1020) |
— |
| Senior Year (11-12 credits) | - Human Anatomy & Lab (BIOL 2320/2325) - Statistical Reasoning (MATH 1031/1040) |
- Human Anatomy & Lab (BIOL 2320/2325) - Statistical Reasoning (MATH 1031/1040) |
- Human Physiology & Lab - Online (BIOL 2420/2423) |
Recommended General Education Classes

While the courses above are required for the nursing track, taking these General Education (GE) classes in high school will significantly lighten your workload once you are in the nursing program.
We recommend adding one or two of these to your schedule each semester. Most have no prerequisites, so you can start as soon as your school allows.
- Social Sciences: General Psychology (PSY 1010) and Human Development (FLHD 1500)
- Foundations: American History (HIST 1700) and Information Literacy (INFO 1010)
- Exploration: One Fine Arts GE and one Humanities GE of your choice.
- Writing: Intro to Academic Writing (ENGL 1010) and Intermediate Writing (ENGL 2010*)
*Note: ENGL 2010 requires the completion of ENGL 1010 first.
Phase 2: The Transition (1st Semester at SUU)
After high school graduation, you'll spend one semester at SUU completing final prerequisites (like Biology and Chemistry) or other recommended GE classes.
- BIOL 2060 - Introductory Microbiology (3 credits)
- BIOL 2065 - Introductory Microbiology Lab (1 credit)
- BIOL 2170 - Intro to Human Pathophysiology (3 credits)
- CHEM 1120 - Elementary Organic Biochemistry (3 credits)
- CHEM 1125 - Elementary Organic Biochemistry Lab (1 credit)
- Any additional GE or Pre-Nursing requirements

At the end of this semester, you will apply to the Nursing program. To maximize your success, we recommend a "Dual Application" strategy:
- Apply to SUU Pre-Licensure: Our primary, competitive BSN program.
- Apply to SouthWest Tech LPN: An excellent partner program that keeps you moving toward your RN license if the SUU program is full.
Phase 3: Choose Your Pathway
Depending on your application results, you will follow one of two paths to your Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN):
Path A: SUU Pre-Licensure
Best if: You are accepted directly into SUU’s nursing cohort.
The Timeline: Stay at SUU for 2.5 years of continuous nursing coursework.
Schedule: Standard Fall/Spring semesters.
Outcome: Graduate with your BSN.
