The professional accounting emphasis is designed for students interested in starting their careers in public accounting, auditing, fraud investigation, advisory, consulting, and cost accounting, as well as traditional accounting and finance roles in an organization. It focuses on innovative management accounting concepts and practices, fraud analysis and investigation techniques, and tax issues for large corporations.

The taxation emphasis is tailored for individuals seeking expertise in the complex and ever-evolving field of taxation. This specialized program delves deeply into tax law, tax planning, compliance, and tax strategy, offering students the knowledge, skills and real-world application needed to excel in the field of taxation and prepare for the Certified Public Account (CPA) exam. Within the field of taxation, practitioners often further specialize in the areas of individual tax, corporate tax, pass-through entities, and transfer taxes (gift, estate, and generation-skipping transfers). The MAcc program at SUU offers classes in each of these to provide broad exposure in all such areas.

MAcc Program Benefits

Flexibility

Students can self select each semester to take 1-4 courses. Students can opt to take summer courses or take summers off.

Online or On-Campus

Some students prefer in class instruction, some prefer the flexibility of online, so we offer both.

Placement Rates

96.5% Employment rate for program graduates. Dedicated Career Coach for business students with focus on employer outreach to coordinate internship and employment opportunities for students.

Domestic Applications need to be submitted at least one week prior to the start of each semester.

International Application deadlines for each term:

  • Fall: July 15
  • Spring: November 15
  • Summer: April 1  (Online Only)

Application Deadlines
Admission decisions are made on a continuous, rolling basis. Domestic applications need to be submitted at least one week prior to the start of each semester. International applications are due July 15th for Fall semester, November 15th for Spring semester, and April 1st for Summer semester. Students needing to complete MBA preparation courses or MAcc Foundation courses do not need to be completed prior to applying, but these courses must be completed prior to starting the graduate program.

Complete a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 2.7 or a minimum GPA of 2.5 and complete two years of professional accounting work experience.

Submit official transcripts from each college or university attended. Official transcripts must be submitted directly from each prior institution to SUU. Applicants who have graduated from Southern Utah University do not need to submit a transcript.

Submit a professional resume that includes employment history, academic accomplishments and highlights managerial and leadership experience.

SUU admissions will determine if foundation courses are needed. Students missing one or more of these courses can be admitted to a pre-business program to complete any missing foundations. This will delay admission to the graduate program.
