Athletic Aid Information
- The FAFSA Application is open on October 1st each year. We encourage you to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible before our May 1st priority deadline. Athletes can benefit from receiving federal aid, and can potentially qualify for state aid as a resident. Review instructions on completing the application, and a walk through video is available.
- Athletes receiving institutional or athletic scholarships must maintain the GPA and eligibility requirement in order to maintain their scholarships on a continuing basis. If you have questions about your athletic scholarship eligibility, please follow up with your coach for additional details. For Academic scholarships you will be able to review renewal criteria on our Academic Scholarship Guidelines page.
- If you are a recipient of federal financial aid, you must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) to continue receiving federal aid. These requirements consist of maintaining a 2.0 GPA as an undergraduate or a 3.0 GPA as a graduate, completing 70% of your total attempted courses, and renaming within the 150% limit required to complete your degree. The Financial Aid Office will communicate to you if you are at risk of not meeting, or have failed to meet SAP requirements.
- If you are an incoming student seeking to be a member of a team, or are looking for scholarships you can use contact information for athletic teams.
- The deadline for new awards for athletes is July 1st before the start of the academic year. Coaches are encouraged to work with Athletic Administration to finalize awards and review compliance before they are able to be processed in the Financial Aid Office
- If you have athletes that are not scholarshipped we encourage you to connect them to the Athletic Aid Coordinator to review potential federal, institutional, and state aid opportunities they can qualify for. Additionally, please encourage athletes that need additional aid to complete their FAFSA as it may open up the door for additional funding opportunities
If you have specific inquiries regarding an athlete's account, please reach out to Laurenmatlock@suu.edu to troubleshoot.
- Each athletic fund has different stipulations attached to them. Stipends and general scholarships may operate differently, and pay out on a different scale depending on how your award is processed. If you would like clarification on how your aid will be handled, please schedule a meeting to discuss your account.
- Scholarships for housing(room) are paid as a lump sum prior to the start of the semester. If you are anticipating a refund for housing, please be aware of your account balance and any processed refunds so that it is not inadvertently spent on other education expenses.
- Adding or Dropping Classes may result in additional refunds if fees are reversed. If you ever receive an unprompted refund contact the Athletic Aid Coordinator before spending it.
- If you haven't cleared eligibility or don't have your contract submitted a hold will be placed before your athletic aid can be paid, and the hold will be released once you have met requirements
- Walk-in hours will be sent out through teamworks prior to the beginning of the semester. You are encouraged to meet with the Athletic Aid Coordinator during this time or through setting up a meeting if you have any question or concerns about your aid
- If you are anticipating a refund check, please check your account balance in your SUU portal. A refund will be indicated by a negative balance on your account balance. To receive your refund quickly, select the “Direct Deposit” link in your SUU Portal for a direct payment to your bank account in lieu of having your payment mailed.
- If you are anticipating a meal plan, and it isn’t displayed on your account please follow up with your coach to determine if it is a part of your award package. If a confirmed award is not posted please contact the athletic aid coordinator for a deeper review of your account.
