HOPE Pantry | Helping Our People Eat

The Southern Utah University HOPE Pantry provides essential food and toiletry items to SUU and STECH students, as well as educational opportunities to develop food budgeting, meal planning, and cooking skills. The Pantry also works to raise awareness of food insecurity and food waste, and encourages student engagement in learning and service opportunities to address these issues on our campus and in our community.

Pantry Quick Facts

• The SUU HOPE (Helping Our People Eat) Pantry is the first campus-based pantries in Utah and one of the first in the country, in operation since spring of 2002.
• During the 2017-18 school year, research conducted on campus found that 49 percent of students indicated they experienced food insecurity, either inadequate in quantity or nutrition, during the school year.
• Since fall of 2019, the HOPE Pantry has seen Pantry use increase by over 1,100%. In the past school year alone (2022-23), Pantry use increased 77% from the prior year.
• In a typical week, the Pantry serves 190-250 students. Each student served is provided with $40 to $50 worth of food and supplies.
