PREP Program Overview

PREP (Pre-Freshman Engineering Program) is a fun, challenging summer program designed for middle school students who are excited about science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). PREP gives students the chance to try real engineering and problem-solving projects, work with cool technology, and learn new skills that prepare them for advanced classes in high school and future STEM opportunities.

PREP builds on what students may have already experienced in programs like the SUU BZI Youth Engineering Academy (YEA). While YEA focuses on K-12 STEAM experiences, PREP takes things to the next level with deeper learning, longer projects, and more teamwork.

During PREP, students learn from SUU STEM and education majors who enjoy teaching and working with youth. These instructors guide students through hands-on activities, design challenges, and lessons that help them stretch their thinking and boost their confidence. Students also get to meet people working in technology, engineering, and other STEM fields so they can see what real careers look like.

PREP is part of SUU’s effort to help students in southern Utah discover their interests and build strong pathways to high school, college, and future careers. As students continue in the program each year, they gain more advanced experiences—like special workshops, field trips, and opportunities to hear from industry professionals.
