Ballroom Dance Company

The Southern Utah University Ballroom Dance Company is one of SUU's outstanding performing groups. The company consists of three performance ensembles with more than seventy student participants. The focus of the group is performing ballroom dances such as the electric American swing, the elegant waltz, the rhythmic samba of Brazil and many more.

The SUU Ballroom Dance Company puts on several campus and community events annually including a Fall showcase and Spring showcase. In addition. the company reaches out to the surrounding community frequently doing performances for local organizations. This energetic group will keep you tapping your feet as you are entertained by wonderful music, beautiful costumes, and amazing formation ballroom dancing.

Meet the Directors

Photo of Sami Kevern, SUU Ballroom director.Sami Kevern, a passionate dancer, started her journey in 2008 with Davis County Ballroom. Her notable talent led her to win numerous national titles in both syllabus and team events. In 2016, she joined the SUU Ballroom Dance Company, where she showcased her skills on the Tour Team. Beyond her dancing prowess, Sami held leadership roles, including Secretary and Vice President. It was during this time that she met her husband, Gage. Together, they continued on and dedicated themselves to supporting the team with choreography and co-founded Cedar City Ballroom. They sought to bring ballroom dance to the community by offering youth and adult classes. With a degree in Education, Sami has a passion to inspire confidence, creativity, and connection in every student she meets. Sami serves as the Director of the SUU Ballroom Dance Company.

Photo of Gage Kevern, Assistant Director of the SUU Ballroom Dance Company.Gage Kevern is a seasoned ballroom dancer with over 20 years of experience in the art form. Introduced to dance at the age of six by his family, Gage honed his skills under the guidance of Latin World Champion Andrea Hale and Annie Topham at Quickstep Dance Studio. His dedication and talent earned him numerous state and national accolades.

After completing high school and his LDS mission, Gage joined the SUU Ballroom Dance Company, where he served as President and Intermediate Team Coach for two of his four years. It was during this period that he met his wife and lifelong dance partner, Sami.

Currently, Gage serves as the Assistant Director of the SUU Ballroom Dance Company and is a co-founder of Cedar City Ballroom. He is committed to supporting dancers (and aspiring dancers) of all ages to discover confidence and self-expression through the power of dance.
