STEM Center Funding

The SUU Center for STEM Teaching & Learning (CSTL) has been working to support local pre-K-12 educators with quality programming since 2014. In support of our mission, in 2015 the Utah legislature awarded the SUU STEM Center one-time funding in the amount of $280,000.00. These funds were instrumental in advancing our programming. In fact, we were able to fully or partially support 22 separate programs or projects and interact with nearly 24,000 children and train over 50 teachers in a six county area of southern Utah.

Again, in 2016, the Utah legislature awarded the SUU STEM Center one-time funding in the amount of $150,000.00. These funds were used in continued support of 21 distinct STEM initiatives.

In 2017, the Public Education Appropriations Subcommittee recommended ongoing support of the center. This proposal was subsequently endorsed by the legislature. Thus, our efforts are now supported by modest, but ongoing, funding. The SUU CSTL is indebted to members of the Utah Senate and House of Representatives, particularly those on the Higher Education and Public Education Appropriations Subcommittees for their support of our initiatives. Without their help our projects would not be possible. We are particularly indebted to local legislators Representative Brad Last, Representative Jon Stanard, and Senator Stephen Urquhart.
