Tanner Center Visiting Artists and Writers
The visiting writers and artists program is a collaboration between the Grace A. Tanner Center for Human Values, Eccles A.P.E.X. Events, the Southern Utah Museum of Art, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Business, and the Gerald R. Sherratt Library.
Spring 2026 Visiting Artist
Our spring 2026 visiting artist is Cathleen Faubert, an Associate Professor of Art, Technology & Culture at the University of Oklahoma’s School of Visual Arts. She earned her MFA from Tufts University/School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Media based art projects are multi-disciplinary and multi-sensory, including video art, photography, and olfactory artworks. Research and creative activity focus on our sense of smell as a language to highlight cultural connections to location, disrupted ecosystems, and the unseen. Faubert has exhibited nationally and completed several artist-in-residence programs. AIR programs have helped to shape her scent mapping work in relation to shifting ecologies and corporeal instincts.
Spring 2026 Visiting Writer
Our spring 2026 visiting artist is Utah Poet Laureate Lisa Bickmore, Professor Emeritus of English at Salt Lake Community College, where she was the recipient of the SLCC Foundation Teaching Excellence Award in 2006. At SLCC, she taught writing of all sorts, as well as publication studies, and is one of the founders of the SLCC Publication Center.
Born in Dover, Delaware, Lisa Bickmore grew up living all over the United States and in Japan. She earned a B.A. and an M.A. from Brigham Young University. She is the author of three books of poems: Haste (Signature Books, 1994), flicker, which won the 2014 Antivenom Prize from Elixir Press, and Ephemerist (Red Mountain Press, June 2017).
