The Jock Doesn't Bite

Posted: November 07, 2018 | Author: Aaron | Read Time: 1 minutes

A view from the back of a man as he looks out onto a baseball field.

He's a dumb jock. He’s a meathead. All he cares about is sports. He can’t carry a conversation on anything except athletics. He's stuck up. He's egotistical. He's rude. He's arrogant. He’s disrespectful. He can't show fear, emotion or weakness. He must be a bully. He isn't capable of expressing compassion. He doesn't cry.

That's what they say. That's what they think. It’s their perception. They don't know the truth or take the time to learn. Assumptions. That's what they make. Conclusions are rushed to without any basis.

He’s on the baseball team therefore he fits these stereotypes. If they spoke to me or spent time with me, they’d find out what I’m really about. Yeah, I like sports, but that’s only a fraction of who I am.

I’m not stuck up- I’m shy. I show emotion- sometimes even cry. The ones who are close to me know I am a teddy bear. I may look rugged but my heart is good. If you take the time, you'll see that I can be pretty funny and kind.

I’m not dumb- I’ve got a sharp mind. I’m very compassionate and take all relationships seriously. I care about the people in my life. If you take the time to be in my life, I will gladly return the favor.

Put these assumptions to bed- It’s all in your head. Come say, “Hi.” I won't bite. I can be a good friend. I’m not a dumb jock. I am Aaron.
