Freshman Year of College: How to Get Involved on CampusOne of the most exciting things about going to college is the opportunity to meet a more diverse and exciting group of people. During your freshman year of college, it can be intimidating to get involved on campus, but Southern Utah University has many opportunities for new students to engage with campus and meet their fellow T-Birds. Here are a few ways to get involved as a college freshman and start your first year of college off right.

How To Get Involved on Campus During your Freshman Year

1. Follow SUU’s Social Media Channels

For students looking to get involved during their freshman year, the University’s social media is a great resource for campus updates and involvement resources. Social media is also a great way to connect with fellow students and to get involved with campus events!

Follow @SUUTBirds on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and don’t forget to follow your favorite teams, clubs and departments on their social media accounts! SUU also hosts a weekly T-Bird Takeover, which gives students the opportunity to see a day in the life of a fellow student and shines a light on unique university experiences, so be sure to follow along with your fellow T-Birds!

2. Get Involved with Campus Clubs

Joining a club is a great way to get to know students with similar interests. Whether you’re into theatre, rockets or conspiracy theories, there’s a club fit for you! By joining a club, students have the opportunity to further develop skills and interests while working alongside other T-Birds, and allows for students to bond outside of the classroom. For a full list of clubs at SUU, visit the SUU Student Association’s website.

If you’re interested in starting a club that isn’t currently available at SUU, you can also register your own club! Visit the SUUSA page for more information on how to start your own club.

3. Attend Campus Events to Meet Fellow T-Birds

SUU is an active campus, with an event always right around the corner. Whether SUU is painting the town red or dancing the night away at The Scream, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved with on campus events. Most events can be found on the SUU Event Calendar, but keep an eye out for announcements on social media and from SUUSA.

4. Volunteer

A great way to get involved on campus during your freshman year is to seek out opportunities to volunteer at SUU. As a volunteer, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a variety of clubs and organizations on campus and explore the whole campus. You’ll also have the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals from all corners of SUU. For a list of volunteer opportunities on campus, visit the Community Engagement Center’s website.
