Parking at SUUIf you’re not from around Cedar City, and even if you are, you will most likely be taking a car or some form of personal transportation while attending Southern Utah University. But did you know that there are a few things you need to learn about campus parking before you buckle your seatbelt and head to college? At SUU, there is a parking pass system that is used to help everyone from drivers to bike and scooter riders always have a spot to park.

Everything You Need to Know about Parking at SUU

Which Parking Pass Should I Buy?

The first thing you have to do is know what parking permit to get. While this can seem overwhelming and confusing, picking the right pass for you is easier than you think. Here are the passes that you are able to consider that allow you to park on campus;

There are two options for cars: the Student Pass and the Housing Pass. Students with the Student Pass are permitted to park in any of the red lots on campus, and students with the Housing Pass can park in the gray lots by student housing. The Student Pass is $30 and the Housing pass is $35.

However, if you have an official ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) disabled parking pass, you may park in any stall. There are specific disabled parking stalls in front of student housing facilities as well.
If you look on an SUU campus map, the purple zones are available to anyone with a parking pass and the green lots are open to anyone with or without a permit.

For students who ride a bike, scooter, or motorcycle, passes for motorcycle and scooter owners may be purchased for $15. Bike passes, vendor passes, and visitor passes are free.

For more information about permit prices, visit the Parking Permits webpage. To purchase a parking permit or view a map of designated parking locations, visit SUU Parking Services.

How Do I Purchase a Parking Pass?

  1. Go to your mySUU portal and click “Parking Permits” in the “Apps” dropdown.
  2. Select “Add Vehicle” and put in the information required (for bicycles, enter the serial number on the underside of the bike instead of the license plate).
  3. Next, choose “Get Permit” and choose the permit you would like to purchase.
  4. Select your vehicle from the “Vehicles” list and the “Permit Year.”
  5. Click “Accept Terms” and checkout.

For more about online purchase and pickup, go to the Parking Permits page.

Are There Places I Can’t Park?

Now that you know all about where you can park, here are some places you can’t park, as well as some other common parking violations to be aware of;

  • Don’t park in the blue zones! Those are for the faculty and staff.
  • Don’t park in the maintenance stalls!
  • Don’t park in the red zones on the curbs. These zones are different from the areas covered by the Student Pass.
  • Don’t park on the sidewalk or on the lawn, don’t park in a way that would hinder or block traffic completely, don’t park in a lot that you are not permitted to park in.
  • Parking in a handicap parking stall without a handicap pass or license plate is prohibited.

Other things to remember are to hang your permit in your rearview mirror, not leave it on your dashboard. Failure to do so will result in a citation. You will also receive a citation if you do not obey signs or curb parking rules or if your car is not parked completely inside the stall boundaries.

For bicycle owners, you must obey traffic laws, obey the speed limit, and always give the right of way to pedestrians. Do not ride on grass, flower beds, or other foliage. You may only park your bike on a bike rack.

As for motorcycle riders, there are special stalls to park in. Do not ride or park on the sidewalk, and you cannot park in stalls meant for cars.

Tailgating for sports events has always been an SUU tradition, but not knowing where to park or the basic rules of tailgating can be dangerous or financially draining. Read the Tailgating Guidelines so that you can be prepared for football season this year.

To read up on other enforced rules, visit Parking Enforcement, Rules, and Regulations. For answers to other questions, go to the Frequently Asked Questions page.

What Should I Do If I Get a Ticket?

If you happen to get a ticket, please visit SUU Parking Services to pay your fine or request an appeal. Another thing to keep in mind is just because you receive a parking pass, does not mean you are guaranteed a parking space.

Best Parking Lots on Campus

There are lots of benefits to having a parking pass on campus. Not only can it be super convenient to be able to park right next to your student housing, but it is also convenient even if you don’t have student housing because you’ll be able to park right next to your classes!

Here are the best parking lots on campus and why they are the most convenient for students:

Student Housing Lots

Whether you live in Founders Hall, Eccles Living Learning Center, Cedar Hall, or Ponderosa Terrace, being able to park by your building is one of the most convenient things you can do. Besides, it’s a lot easier to bring in all your groceries with a housing parking pass.

Campus Lots for Students

There is a lot more to the student lots than meets the eye. For example, did you know that the lot next to the P.E. Building and the lot by the LDS Institute are free and all campus parking is free after 4 p.m.? Parking to get to class just got a whole lot easier.

Biking

If you choose to bike, not only are you helping protect the environment, but you also are able to park your bike on a rack right on campus itself! And if you want to bike to class, but don’t have a bike, SUU offers bike rentals to students at T-Bird Bikes.

Remember to obey traffic laws and speed limits while on the road. Wear a seatbelt when driving and a helmet when riding. For any other questions, contact the SUU Parking Services Office.
